The Public Service Medal recognises outstanding service by employees of the Australian Government and state, territory and local government.
Outstanding service can be shown through:
- service excellence to the public, or to external or internal clients;
- innovation in programme, project or policy development;
- Leadership, including as a member of a team; and
- The achievement of more efficient processes, improved productivity or better service delivery.
Queen's Birthday Honours List (June)
Closing date for nominations is 1 February. If that date falls on a weekend, then nominations close on the Monday immediately following
Australia Day Honours List (26 January)
Closing date for nominations is 16 August. If that date falls on a weekend, then nomonations close on the Monday immediately following.
All Public Sector employees of the Australian, state, territory and local governments are eligible for the medal. Members of the Defence Force and the police and fire services cannot be nominated for the Public Service Medal as they are eligible for comparable awards. The Public Service Medal is open to all levels of the public service and is not reserved for senior officers.
