The Minister for Education's Award for Excellence in Languages and Culture

The Minister for Education & Development's Award for Excellence in Languages and Culture is conducted by the Australia Day Council of South Australia and provided by the Multicultural Education Committee on behalf of the Minister for Education. This Award was presented at the Australia Day Awards Ceremony.
 
 

The Minister for Education's Award for Excellence in Languages and Culture 2014: Laura Clemow
 

Laura has shown outstanding commitment and dedication to maintaining German culture and heritage in South Australia. This has included her involvement with the Bund der Bayern Bavarian dance group as a participant and organiser often conducting activities that go beyond the core activity of dancing including charity fundraising, providing free workshops for students, involvement in events that promote multiculturalism, supporting exchange programs and assisting new citizens to Australian to assist with their integration into their new country. Laura has also been a  key driver of the Adelaide University German Club, support of the Goethe institute in presenting and conducting activities for school students and has mastered the German language  fluently despite having no German heritage or background.

Commendation: Charlotte Gillespie 

Charlotte has made a valuable contribution to the Jewish community as a member of the Beit Shalom Synagogue and as a leader with two Jewish youth groups: the Jewish Adelaide Zionist Youth  and Netzer Australia. Charlotte has volunteered to teach Hebrew to children and has been an active participant with the mentioned Youth groups as an organiser including camps for children, programs and training junior leaders. Throughout Charlotte has shown a commitment to Jewish heritage and language for a number of years despite her young age.
